List my shop on Google

Connect your shop to Google Search Console to appear in search results: verification, sitemap and indexing times.

Winslor automatically generates everything Google needs to index your shop (sitemap, tags, product data). There’s just one manual step left, which you only need to do once: prove to Google that the shop belongs to you, then submit the sitemap. It takes 5 to 10 minutes — all you need is a Google account.

What Winslor does for you

  • Sitemap: a list of all your pages, products and categories, in your languages. Updated continuously.
  • Robots.txt file: allows Google to crawl your shop front and blocks private pages (shopping basket, account, admin).
  • SEO tags: title, description and share image on each page.
  • Structured product data: prices and availability displayed directly in Google search results.

You don’t need to configure anything for these items.

Step 1: Add your shop to Search Console

Google offers two property types. Choose “URL prefix”, whether or not you have your own domain name: it is the only method Winslor verifies with a single paste, without touching your DNS, and it covers everything Google will index — your shop lives at one single address, and every other form redirects to it. “Domain” is only worth it if you host something other than your shop on that domain name (a blog, another site) and want it all in one property: verification then goes through DNS, see below.

  1. Go to search.google.com/search-console and sign in with your Google account.
  2. Click “Add property”, choose “URL prefix” and enter the complete, exact address of your shop: your own domain name if you have one (e.g., https://ma-boutique.fr), otherwise your subdomain (e.g., https://ma-boutique.winslor.com).
  3. In the list of verification methods, expand ‘HTML tag’: Google will display a tag containing a code.
  4. Copy that tag (or just its code, the value of the content attribute).
  5. In your Winslor admin → Settings → Identity, paste it into the “Google Search Console verification” card, then click “Save”. If the field already holds a code for another Google account, paste the new tag after it, without deleting it.
  6. Please wait 1 to 2 minutes, return to Search Console and click ‘Verify’.

If you prefer “Domain”, verification goes through DNS only: Google shows a TXT record to add at your domain name provider, in the same place as the records you entered to connect it to Winslor. The “Google Search Console verification” field is then unused — but do not clear it if it already holds a code: Google periodically re-checks a “URL prefix” property and would drop it. On a .winslor.com subdomain, “Domain” is impossible anyway: the winslor.com domain does not belong to you. → Connect my domain name

Step 2: Submit your sitemap

  1. Once the property has been verified, open the ‘Sitemaps’ menu in Search Console.
  2. Simply enter sitemap.xml in the field, then click ‘Submit’.
  3. Google will read the list of all your pages and start crawling them; the status will change to ‘Successful’ within a few hours.

Step 3: Wait

Indexing takes time: it’s normal for a new shop to take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Google first crawls the main pages, then the products. You can track progress in Search Console → ‘Pages’ (how many are indexed) and ‘Search results’ (your first impressions).

  • Share your shop (on social media, in your email signature): backlinks help Google find you.
  • For a major product, request that it be indexed using the ‘URL Inspection’ tool in Search Console.

Frequently Asked Questions

Validation has failed.

  • Check the address you entered in Search Console: it must be your shop’s address, with no typo.
  • Reopen Settings → Identity: your code must appear in the field. If it doesn’t, paste the tag again and save.
  • Wait 2 minutes after saving in Winslor, then try again.

Do we have to do this all over again for every new product?

No. Once the property has been verified and the sitemap has been submitted, Google will return to crawl the site automatically, and the sitemap will update itself.

I set up a custom domain after the fact.

Repeat step 1 for the new domain: this is a separate property for Google. Your old .winslor.com address automatically redirects to the new domain, so Google will consolidate them automatically.
